Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the main group to begin their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might appear out of place, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his own means, invading the secret base, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then cleared his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, above the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each character has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in House Halovar could assist the group enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward the northern region in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can anticipate learning which characters will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
